THE BY-LAWS

Article I
Election to Membership

Names of proposed new members shall be submitted in writing to the membership committee

  1. By application of candidate
  2. By recommendation of club member in good standing
  3. A biographical sketch of a perspective member may be submitted in writing or given orally
  4. In order to become a member of the Harmony Club, the candidate must receive three fourths (3/4) of the votes of the active members present
  5. Candidates name may be presented one (1) month and voted on the following month
  6. Voting is by secret ballot

The corresponding secretary will notify the accepted member immediately.  Anyone not responding after thirty (30) days shall not be considered.  Any member who desires to withdraw from the club shall send written notice of her intention

Article II

Section I

Only members in good standing will be eligible to hold office and vote

  1. After regular meetings – three (3)
  2. Full hostess responsibilities at designated time
  3. Pay dues by deadline specified by the club
  4. Meet all financial responsibilities for social, civic and/or other commitments decided upon by the majority of the membership
  5. Support group activities by attendance
  6. The Harmony Club shall have not more than 21 members
Article III

Section I

President shall preside at all meetings and appoint all committees

First Vice President shall preside in the absence of the president or at her request

Second Vice President shall preside in the absence of either the President or First Vice President

Recording Secretary shall keep all records of meetings and in the absence of either chair until a successor is elected

Assistant Secretary shall take care of all correspondence and notify members at least 5 to 7 days ahead of meeting

Financial Secretary shall keep all records of all monies and bills and shall notify members of their financial standing in the club and make a quarterly report

Historian shall keep a written history of the club from year to year.  The history shall be read during Negro History Week

Chaplain shall be in charge of devotions

Parliamentarian shall see that the business is conducted in an orderly manner

All officers shall make their annual reports in May

Article IV
Committees

As soon as the president takes office she should appoint the following committees:

  1. Sick
  2. Hospitality
  3. Flower Budget
  4. Program
  5. Membership

Section I
Sick Committee shall communicate with sick members with visits, cards and donations from the club; the donation being $5 per person per year

Hospitality shall act as hostess of the club meeting when a member is unable to take her meeting

Flower Committee shall send floral tributes at the current cost to the immediate family members (mother, father, sisters, brothers, children)

Budget Committee shall plan and submit a budget for the yearly operation of the club

Program Committee shall plan and submit a budget for the yearly operation of the club

Membership committee shall abe in charge of all new names submitted for membership to the club

All standing committees shall be organized and shall function

Article V

Section 1

The regular meeting of the club shall be held on the second Thursday of each month from 5:00 to 7:00 PM

Section 2

Members shall entertain alphabetically after one year in the club

Section 3

If a member is unable to attend a meeting the hostess should be notified two (2) days ahead of time or the member will be assessed $5.00 to the hostess – unless an emergency.

Section 4
No guests shall be admitted until after the business meeting

Article VI

Club dues are $2.00 per month or $20.00 annually

Article VII

Seven (7) members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business

These by-laws may be amended by a two thirds (2/3) vote of the membership provided that written notice has been previously given.
